PAUL
So, what do you want?
(SAMUEL looks a little askew. He doesn't look me in the eyes, instead preferring the floor.)
SAM
I don't know what I want...
PAUL
Or, rather, you don't want to know what you want.
SAM
I'm the part of you that does not want to burden others with his needs. The part of you that would do anything to appease others. The you that already knows, though, that these desires and tendencies will lead others to exploit you.
PAUL
Okay, so you're a self-reflection then.
SAM
All characters are.
But that's precisely why I'm so ill-defined. You don't like to face that part of yourself, so here I am.
PAUL
So, all I have to do is integrate myself... does that mean that you're no longer a character?
SAM
No, it means that you actually know how to write me 😉
PAUL
Oof, touché.
